‘ORIGINALE’ 1991 realizzata da A.R. Penck)	Opera d'arte - Collezione BMW Art Cars Per A.R. Penck la BMW Z1 era già ‘un'opera d'arte’, in cui venivano riflesse la creatività e la fantasia degli ingenieri e del disegnatore. Un'automobile che può vivere il nome Art Car in parecchi sensi. E' stato proprio dalle caratteristiche tecniche della Z1 che Penck ha tratto l'ispirazione per il suo lavoro. L'artista ha voluto mettere in contrasto l'aspetto moderno dell'automobile con il linguaggio dei segni, la cui semplicità ricorda le incisioni rupestri della caverna. I simboli usati, apparentemente semplici e diretti, sono tuttavia una sfida per l'osservatore in quanto sono stati evoluti attraverso un lungo processo di astrazione e rappresentano un linguaggio da decodificare.
‘ORIGINAL’ 1991 made by A.R. Penck	Work of art - BMW Art Cars Collection For A.R. Penck, the BMW Z1 was already a ‘work of art’, in which the creativity and fantasy of the engineer and designer were reflected, an automobile that simultaneously lives up to the name Art Car in several senses. It was from the technical design of the Z1 that Penck drew his inspiration for his work. The artist set the modern appearance of the car in contrast with the sign language, which in its simplicity recalls prehistoric cave paintings. However, his work is at the same time a challenge to the observer, as the apparently straightforward symbols (evolved by a long process of abstraction) are in fact ciphers to be decoded.

‘REPLICA’ 2004 realizzata da Mauro Ferlisi	Dopo aver posseduto per diversi anni una Z1 nera, l'ho venduta per comprarne una rossa in ottime condizioni. La Z1 è già di per se una macchina speciale, ma io ho avuto la folle idea di realizzare qualche cosa di ancora più esclusivo. Per raggiungere il mio scopo ho creato la mia personale replica della Art Car realizzata da A.R. Penck nel 1991. In questo progetto mi sono avvalso dell'aiuto di un esperto in computer-grafica e di una persona che per lavoro applica le pubblicità adesive sugli autobus della mia città. Con l'ausilio di alcune foto trovate in Internet e con un modellino in scala 1:18 (prodotto da Minichamps e commercializzato dalla rete di vendita BMW), noi abbiamo replicato tutta la grafica nel modo più fedele possibile. Tutte le forme sono state disegnate in grafica vettoriale per poter poi essere tagliate grazie ad uno speciale plotter collegato ad un computer. Il materiale adoperato è un vinile adesivo ad alte prestazioni specificatamente prodotto per questo genere di applicazioni. Uno dei punti più difficili è stato quello di determinare le esatte dimensioni e proporzioni di ciascun elemento, noi abbiamo fatto parecchie prove e durante questo tempo molti pezzi sbagliati sono stati buttati in spazzatura... ma ancora più difficile è stata l'applicazione sulla macchina nella posizione corretta e senza creare bolle o grinze. Il risultato finale è molto buono: il vinile è molto brillante e crea un risultato visivo molto bello. In futuro, se deciderò di ripristinare l'auto alle sue condizioni originali, sarà possibile rimuovere tutti gli adesivi senza provocare nessun danno alla carrozzeria.
‘REPLICA’ 2004 made by Mauro Ferlisi	After some year with a black Z1, I sold it to buy a red one in very good conditions. The Z1 is special as it is, but I had the crazy idea to create something more exclusive. In order to make this I have created my personal replica of the Art Car made by A.R. Penck in 1991. In this project I have been helped by an expert in computer graphic and a person that applies advertisement to the big buses of my city. Using some picture found on the web and with the help of a scale 1:18 model (made by Minichamps and sold by official BMW dealers), we have replicated all the artwork in the more faithful way as possible. All drawings have been made with vectors for being able to cut all parts using a special plotter connected with a computer. The material used is hi-performance self-adhesive vinyl specific for this kind of application. One of the most difficult step was to determine the dimensions and proportions of all parts, we made many test before finding the right dimensions and many wrong stickers have been thrown away during this time... but more difficult was the application on the car in the correct position and without creating bubbles or creases. The final result is very good: the vinyl is very shiny and creates a beautiful visual effect. In the future, if I will need to bring the car back to its original aspect, it will be possible to remove all stickers without any damage to the body of the car.
